A wide view of the winter sky and constellations around Orion, from my backyard, March 1, 2013, on a nice clear and mild night. Jupiter is above Aldebaran at right. This was a test shot with the Samyang 14mm ultra-wide lens, at f/2.8, with the Canon 5D MkII. A stack of 5 x 5 minute exposures at ISO 800, with the landscape from two exposures. EXIF data says 50mm lens but the Samyang is manual only and does not send focal length and aperture info to the camera. Taken from southern Alberta, Canada.
The winter sky from home, at latitude 50° N, on a hazy night which added the star glows and the colours to the sky at right from incoming cloud from the west. This is a stack of 5 x 4 minute exposures with the 15mm lens at f/3.5 and Canon 5D MkII at ISO 800. On the iOptron SkyTracker. Taken Feb 10, 2013. Jupiter is the bright object above centre.
The International Space Station performs a pass low across the southern sky on February 10, 2013, with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield on board. This is a stack of 2 4-minute exposures, one with the ISS -- that one was used for the foreground. The second exposure has the foreground masked out to minimize blurring but helps smooth noise in the sky. Taken with the Canon 5D MkII at ISO 800 and 15mm lens at f/3.5.
