M46 and M47 open clusters, with NGC 2423 above. Taken with 77mm Borg refractor at f/4.3 and Hutech-modified Canon 5D camera at ISO 800 for stack of 4 x 4 minute exposures. Taken from Ryder Cottage, April 11, 2007.
Open cluster pair of M47 (right), a bright loose cluster, and M46 (left), a fainter but very rich open cluster. Loose cluster at top right is NGC 2423. Planetary nebula NGC 2438 is at north edge of M46. Taken from Timor Cottage, Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia, December 12, 2010. This is a stack of 5 x 6 minute exposures at ISO 1600 with Canon 5D MkII camera on 105mm Astro-Physics Traveler apo refractor at f/5.8 with 6x7 field flattener.
This is a binocular field (roughly 10° wide) framing of the contrasting open clusters M46 (rich, left and M47 (loose, right) in Puppis. Cluster NGC 2423 is above M47. Cluster NGC 2360 is at right. And above it the cyan-colored nebula Thor's Helmet, NGC 2359. Small red spot at lower right is Sh2-301. This is a 2-image stack of 3-minute exposures with the 135mm lens at f/2.8 with the filter-modified Canon 5D MkII at ISO 800. This was taken in May 2011 from Atacama Lodge in Chile.
