The Blinking Planetary nebula NGC 6826 (left) and the headlight double star 16 Cygni (right) together in the same field. The Blinking Planetary is known for the effect of the central star disappearing and the surrounding nebula appearing when using averted vision. The central star is retained here in this short exposure. 16 Cygni is an equally matched double star. This is a stack of 16 x 30-second unguided exposures with the Celestron C9.25 SCT at f/10 and Canon 6D MkII at ISO 1600. Taken for book illustration use.
The Blinking Planetary, NGC 6826, a planetary nebula in Draco. This is a 4 x 10 minute exposure stack with the Canon 7D at ISO 800 and 130mm Astro-Physics refractor at f/6. The field is relatively wide and focal length too short to show much detail on this small object, but the field does simulate what you would see at low power through a telescope. Double star at right is 16 Cygni.
The Blinking Planetary nebula NGC 6826. The Blinking Planetary is known for the effect of the central star disappearing and the surrounding nebula appearing when using averted vision. The central star is retained here in this short exposure. This is a stack of 12 x 30-second unguided exposures with the Celestron C9.25 SCT at f/10 and Canon 6D MkII at ISO 1600.
