Scorpius, taken from Atacama Lodge in Chile (23° S), March 14/15, 2010, using modified Canon 5D MkII camera, and Sigma 50mm lens at f/4 for stack of 4 x 6 minute exposures, Median combined, plus stack of 4 x 6 minutes with Kenko Softon filter for star glows.
A scene from my backyard of Scorpius, with Antares, and Jupiter rising into the southeast on a late May evening. The remains of twilight and bands of green and red airglow, plus light pollution at left, colour the sky. This is a stack of 3 x 2-minute exposures, all tracked, with the 35mm lens at f/2.8 and Canon 6D MkII at ISO 800. Another exposure taken through the Kenko Softon diffusion filter blended in adds the star glows and pops out the star colours. As the camera was tracked the stars are pinpoints but the ground is blurred.
This section of the Milky Way takes in the centre of the Galaxy area in Scorpius and Sagittarius, with both constellations framed here. This is a stack of 4 x 6 minute exposures at f/4 with the 35mm Canon telephoto lens on the Canon 5D MKII. One exposure was taken thru a Kenko Softon filter to add the star glows. It was taken May 2, 2011 from Atacama Lodge in central Chile and is one segment from a 12-segment panorama along the Milky Way.
