A pre-dawn display of noctilucent clouds on the morning of June 23, 2014, two days after solstice. The NLC clouds are low in the northeast, in the twilight, but the entire sky is blue with perpetual twilight. The Big Dipper is at upper left, the Little Dipper and Polaris at top centre. This is a single 10 second exposure at f/2.8 with the 16-35mm lens at 16mm and Canon 6D at ISO 1600.
An all-sky aurora with green and purple curtains, the night of June 7-8, 2014, starting up about 12:30 and going until dawn. This shot was as it declined in colour and brightness, and was taken from the old barn site near home in southern Alberta. Foreground illumination is from the aurora and ambient sky -- the Moon had set but morning dawn was coming on. The Big Dipper is above the Barn. The purple colour is from blue scatttered sunlight hitting the red tops of the auroral curtains. This was with the 16-35mm lens at f/2.8 for 20 seconds at ISO 800 with the Canon 6D.
An all-sky aurora with green and purple curtains, the night of June 7-8, 2014, starting up about 12:30 and going until dawn. This shot was near its peak, from the old barn site near home in southern Alberta. The purple colour is partly from blue scatttered sunlight hitting the red tops of the auroral curtains. The Big Dipper is above the Barn. This was with the 10-22mm lens at f/4 for 15 seconds at ISO 3200 with the Canon 60Da. It includes me at the tripod and camera that was taking other shots at the same time.
