Evening twilight at the Cape Otway Lighthouse on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia. Built in 1848, Otway served as a major “landfall light” for arriving immigrant ships. Even so, dozens of ships ran aground threading the needle” between the mainland and King Island at the western end of Bass Strait. At far right is a concrete WWII gun emplacement.
